Cosplay—the act of wearing costumes to replicate characters from TV shows, movies, and comics—has been a hobby of mine for almost 11 years. While generally associated with Japanese media, cosplay encompasses a range of genres and is an interest of many all over the world. The hobby has led me to gain friends, skills, opportunities, and memories that could not have been created any other way.

While there are a numerous of positive things that can come to those involved with cosplay, to those not as familiar with the hobby, it can carry a variety of negative connotations. My goal for A Glimpse into Cosplay is to diminish these stigmas and show the hobby as the diverse and welcoming community that it is.

A Glimpse into Cosplay uses a collection of video clips gathered from nearby conventions alongside interviews featuring three cosplay enthusiasts. Film was chosen as the best method to portray the people and colors within the community, and the graphical elements were designed to reference the act of creating costumes, as well as to show the quirkiness of the hobby.
